The function of the linear guide rail is to support and guide the moving parts, and to reciprocate the linear motion according to the given direction. In order to use the right type of linear guide rail in the right situation, it is necessary for design engineers to understand the advantages and capabilities of different guide rails, so as to make a reasonable choice.

Type of linear guide rail:

Circular guide rail

It is used by the linear bearing and the linear shaft. It is cylindrical in appearance and can be assembled in the circular hole. At the same time, the linear bearing can also be used with sliding block to realize plane installation. The installation and use of circular guide rail are more convenient, saving space.

Square guide

It is used by square slider and square guide rail, which is square in appearance. Considering the friction and bearing load, the square guide rail is the contact friction between the guide rail and the slide block surface, with large friction and even load, which requires frequent oil lubrication.

How to choose:

For the selection of circular guide rail and square guide rail, mainly from the load, accuracy, stiffness, finish and other factors to consider. The typical application of square guide rail is the machine tool industry which requires high load capacity, rigidity and accuracy. However, after the above conditions are met, it is difficult to meet other requirements, such as high installation requirements, high initial cost and high maintenance cost. In this respect, the circular guide rail shows its advantages. When it is installed on the surface with less flatness, it can still run smoothly. Circular guide rail is usually faster to install and more stable to run than square guide rail. To sum up, how to choose the right one according to the actual needs is the best one.
